Health & Safety Courses
Oleh Smaczylo is a safety, health, environment, and quality consultant at Groundwork in Greater Manchester, working from Trafford Ecology Park. He works in an advisory capacity providing support to businesses in health and safety, quality management and environment management and has done so for almost 15 years at Groundwork.
Here, Oleh explains some of the upcoming health and safety training courses at Trafford Ecology Park, who they are designed for and why the topic is so important.
Here in the UK and in Trafford Park especially, Europe’s largest industrial estate, we like making things, we need to make things, we like to deliver services and we need to deliver services, but we need to ensure that the people who are doing that for us are safe and healthy.
Health and safety is not just important, it’s vital. People’s safety, people’s health should both be paramount to any business.
It’s clear that the UK still has an ongoing problem with work related health issues; last year (2018) 1.4 million people suffered from work related health issues, so there’s still a way to go with the health side of things.
In his role as a health and safety trainer Oleh deliver the Level 2 Health and Safety Course at Trafford Ecology Park. I’s a completely introductory level course for health and safety just a few miles out of Manchester. Throughout the full day health & safety course a lot of ground is covered and we do our best to give the candidate the best possible chance to gain the qualification.
In addition to this course Oleh also delivers the Level 2 Award in Principles of COSHH training course.
COSHH is short for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health. In the UK, we have a regulation, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations that came out in 2002. All businesses that ask their employees to use various substances, or if they generate a substance such as dust for example from their activities, that would come under the umbrella of COSHH.
This course is for anybody that has employees who are exposed to hazardous substances and want to start develop their knowledge of what COSHH is in a wider health and safety scope.
During the full day course topics such as COSHH risk assessment through to how to prevent problems arising are covered.
In addition, if you decide to come and do either of these courses with us, you’ll be based in this fantastic ecology park for the day! At lunchtime you’ve got the chance to improve your wellbeing and go out and have a little walk.
It’s not just about coming and learning, it’s a whole rounded sort of experience, and we’d love to see you there.
