Peel L&P team takes action to mark UN World Environment Day

Employees from regeneration business, Peel L&P, took part in a special volunteering day to mark World Environment Day, the United Nations Day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.

The team spent the day at Trafford Ecology Park, with environmental charity Groundwork Greater Manchester, working together on a range of projects to manage the woodland, protect local wildlife and preserve the area’s valuable biodiversity.

People from a wide range of functions across the business, including finance, people and culture, and planning, took part in the volunteering day, which was organised by the company’s sustainability team. The team was involved in tree planting, clearing and composting as well as preparing wildflower beds and building bat and bird boxes.

Jo Holden, Sustainability Director at Peel L&P, said:

“Our team really enjoyed their day volunteering at Trafford Ecology Park. It was a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of World Environment Day among our teams and educate them about the importance of protecting our green spaces and how we can all do our bit towards creating a more climate resilient future.

As a business, we are connecting the dots between the net zero carbon agenda and nature-based solutions, which is needed to slow the effects of climate change. Our Climate Positive Plan demonstrates just how deep this commitment goes.

World Environment Day is really important because it reminds us that we can all play our part, both as businesses but also as individuals, in making a positive change to protect our natural environment, no matter how small it may seem.”

Michael Ormerod, Executive Director at Groundwork Greater Manchester, added:

“Trafford Ecology Park is a sanctuary for nature in one of Europe’s largest industrial estates. As one of just a few green spaces in the area, its preservation is critical for the nature recovery.

Thanks to the support of businesses like Peel L&P, greenspaces like Trafford Ecology Park are maintained so that nature and biodiversity can thrive. We hope that other businesses in the area following Peel L&P’s example and offer their support to this valuable space.”
